This
year
the
annual
Rotary
Christmas
Dinner
was
held
at
the
East
Herts
Golf
Club.
However,
the
day
before
this
area
had
had
its
snowfall
of
the
winter
and,
although
the
roads
were
now
clear,
the
outside
temperature
was
already
below
freezing
as
we
travelled
to the event. The journey getting there was therefore rather problematic with patches of freezing fog.
It
was
a
relief
to
arrive
unscathed
at
our
dinner
venue
and
over
fifty
Rotarians
and
guests
managed
to
brave
the
weather
and
relax
and
chat
in
the
rather
chilly
lounge
area.
Eventually
we
were
called
in
to
dinner
where
we
were
seated
eight
to
a
table
and
served
with a delicious three-course meal with a menu that we had individually selected in advance.
We
had
as
special
guests
past
president
Steve
Higginbotham
and
his
wife
Sue
who
have
recently
moved
to
the
Leeds
area.
Steve
was
to
have
presented
a
substantial
cheque
from
the
Club
to
a
representative
of
Hertfordshire
Mind
which
was
the
nominated
charity
during
his
term
of
office.
Sadly,
the
person
representing
the
charity
was
unable
to
come
at
the
last
minute
so
we
were
unable to hand it over in person.
Although
the
event
was
to
have
had
some
local
singers
entertain
us
after
dinner,
the
weather
had
forced
them
to
cancel.
At
the
last
minute
both
president
Peter
and
vice-president
Phillip
had
conjured
up
a
quiz
as
an
alternative
entertainment.
We
all
spent
an
enjoyable
thirty
minutes
or
so
puzzling
over
a
range
of
fiendish
questions
which
fortunately,
we
could
discuss
and
decide
upon
the
answer as a table.
By the time we all left the freezing fog had largely gone, thank goodness.
