Youth Makes MusicRoyston is the home of the acclaimed classical concert trumpeter, Alison Balsom. This very accomplished young musician was introduced to music whilst attending Tannery Drift First School, went on to Greneway, then Meridian School, tutored by the brilliant late Bill Thompson. Alison is a role model for hundreds of boys and girls who receive regular tuition in instrumental work and/or singing. Recognising the deep commitment and dedication of the music teachers at the Royston first, middle and upper schools, well supported by the talented corps of visiting instrumental teachers, the Rotary Club celebrates the high standard achieved by hosting an evening concert of 2˝ hours at the excellent concert hall of the University of Cambridge Music. Normally over 200 pupils and students from 7 – 18 amass to perform before a full house of 500. The range of instrumental and choral work is tremendous and is known to move some of the audience to tears because of the high quality.

Mock InterviewsMost people are nervous of vocational interviews, concerned that they represent themselves at their best. Rotarians visit Meridian School to give students an insight to the way to impress possible employers. Each student has an exclusive and personal interview with feedback as to how to improve their technique. |
